Meet Laura

After working in corporate financial research in both New York and San Francisco, Laura stayed home with her boy/girl twins. As she raised them from infancy to toddlerhood, she discovered her passion and returned to school again to earn her masters in communication disorders. She and her husband now live with their teenaged twins and chocolate lab, Muddy, in the West Valley.

Laura Ballan received her Masters of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Southern Connecticut State University.  She was awarded the Connecticut Speech and Hearing Foundation Scholarship based on both academic performance and clinical professor recommendations. Laura has experience working with children of all ages with a variety of speech and language challenges. She also has a law degree and is admitted to the New York Bar. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University.  Laura holds a California State license and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is also a member of CSHA and the International Dyslexia Association.

Throughout her education and clinical experience, Laura has built a strong speech-language diagnostic and therapeutic foundation developed through evidence based research strategies. Laura has experience with a wide range of communication processes, delays and disorders including language-literacy skills, executive function, receptive/expressive language delays, articulation and phonological processes, and childhood apraxia of speech. Laura’s focus is to combine differentiated learning and dynamic assessment with research-based intervention to develop individualized and meaningful treatment approaches for each child’s unique needs. She exclusively practices neurodiversity affirming therapy with a focus on supporting development of self advocacy and sensory integration for clients and caregivers.

Currently, Laura is a preceptor for the Early Intervention Program supervising and supporting graduate student clinical skill development at California State University – Northridge. Laura maintains a private practice working with toddlers, preschoolers and twice exceptional elementary school students throughout the West Valley.
